Emma Allen

Emma Allen has been helping get our Graduate Website up and running as well as working on a live brief set by the YCN.  Here is a little snippet about her work:

This is my entry to the YCN’s Feel Good Drinks student brief. The aim of the project was to make Feel Good famous so I developed a campaign where their flavours are competing in a race and advance when fans of each flavour vote via social media. As a quirky aspect I dressed the characters in sporting gear. At the show I will have a track where people can vote for their favourite with stickers. My work is very broad, as I love trying out new things. Overall my projects are very concept based, so I work in whatever media suits the idea. I love generating ideas and hope to work for a creative agency in the future.

Yvonne Michaelidou

Yvonne has been working on a live brief for Italian paper company Fedrigoni.  The theme of the project was 'imaginative colours'.  Yvonne has used complex origami that is interchangeable.  The geometric shapes can be shifted from deep black to vibrant colours.  It reminds me of rubik's cubes very retro and playful.  Here are a glimpse at what she produced.

You can also check out the animation she produced and see the transition in action below!!

Emma Black

Every year the D&AD set briefs for undergraduates to get involved in and submit, in hope that the company picks them as the winner.  Pretty much all students from visual communication courses across the UK enter and it's a massive achievement when a student wins.  There are many categories such as typography, corporate identity, awareness campaigns, animation etc.

Emma Black, one of our class mates for the past three years, was successful in winning the D&AD Diesel Project In Book prize.

The work is illustrating David Bowie's album "The Rise and Fall of Ziggy Stardust and The Spiders From Mars." The illustration was inspired by the two songs "Moonage Daydream" and "Rock N' Roll Suicide" and is to be viewed as one long image. The illustration was also intended to be printed in a anniversary edition of the album as an 18 page concertina booklet, to illustrate the concept and story behind the album.

Checkout the amazing galactic booklet below which she has used combining a mix of mono prints, drawing, painting and collage.

Emma will also be showing her work at our final degree show at Ambika P3, IDENTITY 2012.

Sean Willmott

Well done to Sean Willmott for being a finalist in the BBC Wildlife Artist of the year 2012!  Sean had entered the black and white category using photos to draw from when he visited South Africa.  Sean is diverse in his work by that he is able to capture and create natural and relaxing docuart, but he will be showing something at IDENTITY 2012 which will be of a louder volume... not his hair btw.  Here is his entry for the BBC:

Charlie Rallings

We're always encouraged and find it fun to take part in live briefs as it gives us the chance to get our work seen by the public as well as letting show professionalism by meeting deadlines and thinking why we are creating things in a certain way and who are we trying to appeal too.

It gets even better when our entries are chosen to be used and displayed by the company.  Along with two second year Westminster Illustration students, Charlie Rallings won The Fish Tank Project set by Design By Music.  The brief was to create some artwork for their glass office, hence the name Fish Tank.

She says "I was asked to come up with a window display idea for the glass Fishtank at the Music design agency. The design had to be inspired by a track of music of my choice. The tune my illustrations are based on is country track Hunters map by Fionn Regan."  Charlie's going up to Manchester soon to curate her piece, so we'll soon have images of that!  For now, here are her winning design mock ups.
